Kumu Hula Manu Boyd is releasing his first solo CD project – Mele ‘Ailana. A noted composer of Hawaiian mele (songs and chants), Boyd’s Mele ‘Ailana is a collection of songs in varied styles and instrumentation, illustrating a new direction for Boyd who has recorded for 25 years with the group Ho’okena.
The album includes many guest artists including Robert Cazimero, Kainani Kahaunaele, Keala Chock, Kala’iokona Ontai, Kihei Nahale-a, Jeff Peterson, Louis “Moon” Kauakahi, Waipuna (Kale Hannahs, Matt Sproat, David Kamakahi), Kapalai’ula de Silva, Lilinoe Sterling, and Halau o ke ‘A’ali’i Ku Makani.
