Make ‘Em Smile is a brand new organization aimed at bringing local musicians into hospitals offering live music, entertainment and a smile to patients.mailani_make-em-smile1

Wednesday was the launch of the program at Kapiolani Medical Center where a handful of children and some parents got a chance to meet and greet award-winning musician Mailani Makainai and legendary entertainer Jimmy Borges.

“Our patients and families are so excited to have our local musicians come, they are our local super stars and celebrities here and so we are really excited to see them,” Wolfe said.

The resident therapy dog Tucker was also in attendance.

The program is volunteer based and is scheduled every Wednesday and Friday at Kapiolani.

“The wonderful thing about this program, it’s completely free and the musicians donate their time, which is wonderful.  Everything about the program is free for our patients and families, it’s really special…”

Here’s a wonderful message Mailani shared about her experience:

“I truly am grateful for the chance to have given back to our community here on O’ahu.

Also, like many of our ali’i, Kapi’olani had great insight as to the necessary needs of her people. I am merely a product of that past and one who firmly believes in perpetuating the very legacy that has given so much to me and my family.

Kapi’olani Hospital is a state of the art facility that is a health care home base and a communal place of health and well being. Having allowed me to share my music and to talk stories with the families was a tiny act on my part. I only hope and wish to do more!

Aloha to you all and thank you again for giving me a chance to give back to Hawai’i’s people the way Kapi’olani had envisioned.

Me ke Aloha,
Mailani k. Maka’ina’i”
