Internet Radio Fairness Act (IRFA) Doesn’t Pass

The “Internet Radio Fairness Act” was defeated by Congress, meaning performers, songwriters and studio professionals will still be treated fairly. The IRFA sought to reduce the royalties that Internet Radio operators pay to owners of the sound recordings.

To read The Recording Academy’s Chair Emeritus Jimmy Jam‘s testimony on the IRFA,  visit the grammy.org‘s website

“Jimmy Jam, Chair Emeritus of The Recording Academy, testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet at a hearing titled “Music Licensing Part One: Legislation In The 112th Congress.” Jam spoke out against legislation that would cut artists royalties…”

25 Greatest Highlights-“IZ” Kamakawiwo`ole / Brothers Cazimero / Weldon Kekauoha

Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo`ole‘s song, “`Opae E” on the album “Alone in IZ World”, is featured in Honolulu Magazine’s “The 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century”!  The album ranked 3rd on the magazine’s list!

“Alone In IZ World” was compiled after the passing of Iz in 1997. Luckily, Jon de Mello recorded every studio moment to tape – outtakes, banter, lighthearted covers. The result was an unheard revelation.

The Brothers Cazimero‘s song, “No Ke Ano Ahiahi”, from their album, “Destiny” is featured in Honolulu Magazine’s “The 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century”!  The album ranked 14th on the magazine’s list.

The Brother’s jazzy take on Hawaiian has become a respected tradition. Robert Cazimero says the recording process for Destiny was, “the most haphazard out of all the albums, in a good way.”

Grammy nominee, Weldon Kekauoha‘s song, “Ka Lehua ‘Ula”, from his album with the same name is featured in Honolulu Magazine’s “The 25 Greatest Hawaii Albums of the New Century”!  The album ranked 9th on the magazine’s list.

Contemporary songs such as “On the Beach at Waikiki” and “Thank You Lord” may be in English, but his steel guitar and ukulele put them right home in the Islands.
